The Advent Calendar<\/strong><\/a> was originally designed for children. It was invented at the end of the 19th century by Gerhard Lang, a German publisher inspired by his mother. According to legend, she would bake twenty-four biscuits, each wrapped in coloured paper, and give one to young Gerhard each day from the first of December until the anticipated date of the 25th.<\/p>\n
